91做厙's mission is to develop:
Broadly educated, life-long learners; Reflective professionals and engaged citizens; And ethical leaders with moral courage."

91做厙 the Award

91做厙s Real-World Learning Awards provide financial assistance to students participating in experiential learning opportunities that enhance their academic and professional development. Launched in 2016, these competitive awards help cover eligible expenses without reducing the financial aid a student has already been awarded.

Eligible Experiences

Students may apply for funding to support the following experiences:

Application and Selection Process

All students are welcome to apply. Award amounts vary depending on the type of experience, and funding is limited. Applications are reviewed after the deadline of each cycle with priority given to students who have not previously received funding through the Real-World Learning Awards program.

  • Applications are evaluated using several criteria, including:
  • Academic performance
  • Participation in extracurricular and co-curricular activities at 91做厙
  • The extent to which the proposed experience supports the student's academic progress, professional development, and alignment with 91做厙's mission

Information

Real-World Learning Awards are intended to help students cover expenses associated with approved experiential learning opportunities. The following guidelines identify expenses that may be eligible for reimbursement. This list is not exhaustive and should serve as a guide when determining whether an expense qualifies.

Required documentation: Proof of registration and/or receipt.

Eligible expenses may include fees associated with:

  • Study abroad and study away programs
  • Program participation
  • Program-related lodging, travel, and other eligible expenses included in the program fee

Required documentation: Receipts are required for all travel expenses, as applicable.

Eligible expenses may include:

  • Airfare: Airline tickets for students traveling independently rather than participating in an 91做厙-sponsored trip. Airfare documentation must include the passenger's name, travel dates, origin and destination, fare basis (economy or coach), ticket amount, ticket number, and the credit card number charged. A credit card statement or receipt alone is not sufficient documentation for airfare reimbursement.
  • Rental cars: Rental car expenses for travel exceeding 50 miles round trip.
  • Public transportation: Bus, train, subway, and metro fares or passes.
  • Parking: Parking garage fees and metered parking.
  • Mileage: Gas mileage when necessary. Students must submit an expense report for mileage along with a travel map documenting the trip.

Required documentation: Receipts are required for all meal expenses.

  • Reasonably priced meals may be reimbursed when meals are not prearranged or provided as part of an 91做厙-sponsored trip.
  • Tips must be indicated on the receipt.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not eligible for reimbursement.

Required documentation: Receipts are required for all lodging expenses.

  • When lodging is not prearranged or provided as part of an 91做厙-sponsored trip, students should use sound judgment when selecting reasonably priced accommodations.
  • Students are encouraged to share rooms when appropriate.
  • Reimbursement is limited to the basic room rate and applicable taxes.
  • Incidental charges, including room service, movies, internet charges, and other additional services, are not eligible for reimbursement. These changes would make the information easier for students to understand and help reduce questions about eligibility, documentation, and reimbursement.
